A house-shaped haniwa mounted with miniature houses, and a boat-shaped haniwa from the Saitobaru Burial Mounds

A group of haniwas (ceramic clay figures) that were unearthed from the No. 170 mound of Saitobaru Burial Mounds, illustrating one stage of the kofun story. Among all such items in the country, this house-shaped haniwa is unique in that it is mounted with five miniature houses. The boat-shaped haniwa symbolizes people who were involved in maritime trade, sailing over the open sea.
