Chicken Nanban is considered to have come from Nobeoka city in Miyazaki. It is a regular dish in restaurants and shops selling prepared food in Miyazaki.It is eaten with tartar sauce after dipping the fried chicken into a sweet vinegar sauce. In the latter half of 30’s of the Showa Era (The early half of the 1960’s), the cooking method for mackerel nanban-zuke, which is marinated mackerel with nanban sauce, was applied to chicken, and people started cooking chicken nanban. Later one chef arranged the dish to eat with tartar sauce, and from then it became popular.
